The GenNEXT Cabinet is a leadership team of passionate young changemakers in their 20s and 30s who volunteer together to support United Way of the Alberta Capital Region’s mission. Cabinet member volunteers are involved in strategic planning, event coordination, and advocacy, all while gaining valuable leadership experience and making a tangible difference in the lives of people in our community.
By joining the Cabinet, you become part of a movement of emerging leaders who volunteer their time to create equitable opportunities for everyone.
You’ll directly contribute to initiatives that improve lives and create opportunities for vulnerable populations in our community.
Cabinet membership is an incredible opportunity to develop skills in project management, strategic planning, public speaking, and more — all while making a difference.
Connect with other passionate young professionals who share your values. Cabinet members build a strong support system of peers and mentors, fostering both personal and professional growth.
Collaborate with other young professionals to design and implement annual events and campaigns that align with GenNEXT’s mission. From fundraising drives to community engagement projects, you’ll be at the forefront of driving social change.
Brainstorm and develop podcast topics for Do Local Good, with opportunities to host episodes and share your voice with a broader audience. Additionally, you’ll have the chance to write blog articles that inspire and inform the community
As an ambassador for United Way, you’ll promote events, campaigns, and initiatives within your personal and professional networks, helping to broaden awareness and engagement.
As a Cabinet Member, you’ll serve a two-year term, with the option to renew. The full Cabinet meets every two months, while project teams convene throughout the year at varying intervals. On average, Members attend one to two meetings per month, depending on their chosen Project Team.
We understand that balance is important, so projects are spread throughout the year to align with your schedule. Members are expected to participate in at least one Project Team annually, ensuring meaningful engagement without overextending commitments
GenNEXT welcomes individuals with diverse backgrounds and skills. You don’t need to be an expert — just eager to grow. GenNEXT Cabinet is a great opportunity for individuals looking to build on skills they’ve started developing, particularly in areas like public speaking, project management, media and marketing, and fundraising.
Cabinet members gain valuable experience in leadership, project management, communication, public speaking, and event coordination. You’ll also enhance your skills in teamwork, advocacy, and strategic planning — all while contributing to impactful initiatives.
For those interested in media and storytelling, GenNEXT Cabinet also offers the opportunity to get involved with the Do Local Good podcast, whether by hosting episodes, interviewing guests, or learning the behind-the-scenes process of podcast development.
We want to work with you to make this a meaningful experience! While Cabinet membership does require active participation, we structure projects throughout the year so you can engage in ways that align with your skills and schedule. Members are expected to contribute to at least one project annually, ensuring that the workload is shared and impactful.

The application process is simple. Complete the online application form, and our team will review your submission. If selected, you’ll be contacted for a follow-up conversation to discuss your interests and how you can contribute to the Cabinet.
Cabinet terms run from April 1 to March 31, and while we welcome applications year-round, to start your term on time, be sure to submit your application by March 16, 2025.
