United Way of the Alberta Capital Region is thrilled to announce that Greg Wengreniuk, a longstanding United Way volunteer, has been recognized with the prestigious André Mailhot Award by United Way Centraide Canada.
This national honor recognizes his lifelong dedication to philanthropy, leadership, inclusion, and community service.
“As an Albertan, I am so proud and continually awed by the contributions and volunteering of Albertans and Canadians like Greg. You are an inspiring peer, an outstanding individual, and a shining example of unwavering dedication,” describes Jason Hatcher, Board Chair for United Way Centraide Canada.
For over a decade, Greg has been instrumental in leading the Engineering Day of Caring (EDOC), uniting engineering firms in workplace campaigns and community impact projects, which have raised over $24 million since 2006. His leadership and tireless efforts as a member of the Corporate Solutions Cabinet have strengthened corporate partnerships and expanded our ability to serve the Edmonton and Alberta Capital Region.
“It’s been a just a real thrill and an honor to work alongside Greg,” says Rob Yager, President and CEO of United Way of the Alberta Capital Region.
“I think everything that’s been identified here as the criteria for this award just shines out of you on a day-to-day basis. And we’re very, very grateful for all that you do to help support our community.”
Beyond his exceptional work with United Way, Greg’s deep commitment to his community shines through in his personal initiatives, such as running Greg’s Bike Shop to offer free bike repairs in his community, bikes to Ukrainian newcomers, and opening his home to families in need.
“I consider this a tremendous honor, particularly because the nomination came from my peers: people I admire and respect, and people who I aspire to be,” Greg shares.
“I really see this as an emulation of what we all aspire to. This recognition really reflects upon each and every one of us and the work that we do in the Alberta Capital Region.”
