The Youth Orchestra of Northern Alberta (YONA)
Step into the world of YONA as they perform Ode to Joy. YONA is an initiative by the Edmonton Symphony Orchestra that provides a unique after-school program to empower local youth through music at no cost to their families.
For over 10 years, YONA has been making a difference in our community, instilling values of unity, harmony, and mutual compassion through the art of learning orchestral instruments. Operating five days a week, three hours each day, YONA creates a dynamic and caring learning environment, placing ensemble music at its core, and adopting a holistic approach to education.
Soul Singer and Songwriter Cikwes
Escape into a soul-stirring melody by Cikwes, a nehiyaw singer and songwriter from Bigstone Cree Nation whose music explores her Cree language and includes chanting cahkasinahikanak, accompanied by heartfelt stories and laughter.
Cikwes’ album, kâkîsimo ᑳᑮᓯᒧᐤ, was nominated for the Juno Awards, the Summer Solstice Indigenous Music Awards, Edmonton’s Music prize and the Western Canadian Music Awards in 2023!
