By joining GenNEXT, you’ll have the opportunity to gain valuable skills, build professional connections, and contribute to meaningful initiatives that benefit our community.

Are you looking for a way to make a positive impact and build connections in your community with like-minded individuals? Look no further than GenNEXT, a group of motivated individuals who are passionate about using their skills to make a difference.

GenNEXT is currently recruiting for members with a wide variety of skills, networks, and careers. The deadline to apply is Friday, March 15, at 5:00 p.m.

United Way’s GenNEXT group was formed by passionate professionals who were looking for opportunities to educate themselves about the complex social issues that people in our region experience — and how they can use their unique skills to help.

GenNEXT Cabinet members help develop and implement the annual GenNEXT strategy, plan events, and act as a United Way ambassador in our community. They can expect to:

  • Engage in vibrant brainstorming sessions to shape compelling podcast episodes
  • Explore diverse topics that resonate with our community and amplify our impact
  • Take the lead in planning and executing special events that touch lives directly
  • Organize and participate in social events that create a sense of belonging and camaraderie

The team is currently recording the next episode of the Do Local Good (formerly, Peace Out Poverty) podcast, a platform aimed at spotlighting community efforts to enhance the well-being of all individuals.

“Our GenNEXT members are passionate about building a strong sense of belonging and understanding. Their curiosity about the social and systemic barriers that exist in our community, combined with their desire to amplify the good work happening to create change, makes for a meaningful and optimistic volunteer opportunity,” describes Trish Weber, Vice President, Donor Relations & Resource Development for United Way of the Alberta Capital Region.

The group developed the Do Local Good podcast: a platform to amplify the work happening in our community to make things better for everyone.

For his upcoming podcast episode, GenNEXT member Adam Tymko connected with students participating in Make Your Mark, another United Way initiative, for an upcoming episode.

“I wanted to see how young people are learning about the issues in our community. They are developing these leadership skills early and already making a difference.”

GenNEXT members develop critical skills and gain valuable experience, whether to add to their resume or to learn something new just for fun. For Adam, learning more about podcast production has been his favourite experience so far.

“It’s been something I’ve always wanted to do. It was cool to see behind the scenes of a podcast. I now appreciate all the work that goes in behind the scenes,” he shares.

Through community involvement opportunities like GenNEXT, you can develop new skills, broaden your horizons, and gain a unique perspective on life. Join this dedicated group of community-builders to learn more about how we can all work together, so no one is left behind.
