KAIROS Blanket Exercise

January 29 @ 1:00 pm - 3:00 pm

Stack of woolen checked blankets
Stack of woolen checked blankets, autumn and winter concept

The KAIROS Blanket Exercise is an interactive learning experience that presents the history of the indigenous and non-indigenous peoples.

Explore the nation-to-nation relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in Canada during the KAIROS Blanket Exercise, facilitated by a nehiyaw iskwew-Cree woman with a deep understanding of the indigenous and non-indigenous peoples history in Canada.

In this moving participatory learning experience, you’ll step into the roles of First Nations, Inuit, and later Métis peoples as you navigate the “land,” represented by blankets arranged on the floor. Learn how the colonization of this land impacts those who were here long before settlers arrived. Engage your heart and mind in understanding why the relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples is often broken and how we can take action together.

This event offers bookended opportunities to forge meaningful connections with fellow community-minded individuals. With a talking circle and an opportunity to network with other individuals after the activity, you can share your perspectives and discuss how, as a collective force, we can contribute to truth and reconciliation efforts that build a stronger, more vibrant community.

The session will take place over the course of two-hours:

  • Hour one: KAIROS Blanket Exercise
  • Hour two: A Talking Circle

The Kairos Blanket Exercise will be held at the Stantec Tower 10220-103 Ave NWEdmonton on Floor 3 in the Wild Rose Boardroom. Stantec provides coffee and tea to guests and asks that you bring your own reusable mug to reduce waste.
