Join Women United supporters to explore the nation-to-nation relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples in Canada during the KAIROS Blanket Exercise, facilitated by Michelle Nieviadomy.
In this moving participatory learning experience, you’ll step into the roles of First Nations, Inuit, and later Métis peoples as you navigate the “land,” represented by blankets arranged on the floor. Learn how the colonization of this land impacts those who were here long before settlers arrived. Engage your heart and mind in understanding why the relationship between Indigenous and non-Indigenous peoples is often broken and how we can take an action together.
This event offers bookended opportunities to forge meaningful connections with fellow community-minded individuals. With networking time before the activity and a talking circle afterwards, you can share your perspectives and discuss how, as a collective force, Women United can contribute to truth and reconciliation efforts that build a stronger, more vibrant community.
Plus, savour the flavours of Indigenous cuisine, catered by 100% Indigenous-owned and operated Teepee Treats. Enjoy a delicious meal featuring a donair with an Indigenous-twist and a bannock-infused cinnamon stick for dessert. (Please note any dietary restrictions during online registration.)

Michelle Nieviadomy is nehiyaw iskwew (Cree woman). Though her roots are in Saskatchewan, Michelle has called Amiskwaciy Waskahikan (Edmonton, Alberta) her home for more than 20 years. She is assistant director of the Edmonton Native Healing Centre and has her own business, Iskwew Health. Some of her work over the past 17 years has included community development in several capacities. Her strong value for community care, engagement, and development led her to start Healing Her Homefire, a grassroots initiative based on education, advocacy, outreach, and community support around the crisis of houselessness and community development. In her personal life, Michelle loves fitness and wishes to have her own pet dog one day!
