All in for Youth - United Way Alberta Capital Region

All in for Youth

For vulnerable students, graduating is about more than just getting good grades. Healthy relationships with family and friends, secure food and housing, and mental health resources are vital in supporting students on their educational journey. All in for Youth (AIFY) brings together local services to help address the complex needs children and families experience when living with low income. By being there for youth on their educational journey, your support of AIFY can increase high school completion rates and set the next generation up for success.

About

For many local students, the goal of graduation is out of reach because of personal or family-related challenges. Furthermore, parents who don’t complete high school are most likely to have children who follow this pattern, perpetuating a cycle of financial insecurity.

United Way and its strategic partners are helping kids from the start! Support is offered for early learning and development through all the school years to graduation. With your help, we can create a future where everyone can achieve their dreams through financial stability.

Through the collaboration of ten local partners, AIFY offers multiple supports both in and out of school that help improve academic achievement, increase school and community engagement, and develop resilience to handle life’s challenges. They provide essential support to meet the day-to-day needs of vulnerable students and their families.

All in for Youth supports children from Kindergarten through Grade 12 in eight schools where there is a high need for services:

  • Abbott Elementary
  • Delton Elementary
  • Eastglen High School
  • Ivor Dent Elementary Junior High
  • John A McDougall Elementary

With your help, we can change the lives of local students

All in for Youth develops students’ and families’ individual capacity. Supporting students’ success in school creates community-wide benefits, such as:

  • Empowering financial security
  • Reducing social costs, as poverty has a cost of between $7.1 and $9.5 billion annually in Alberta;
  • Creating safer communities as increases in high school completion rates are associated with reduced crime;
  • Improving the employability of youth; and,
  • Elevating the quality of our workforce.

Impact

Because of supporters like you, AIFY students and families are creating positive change in their lives – and it’s making a difference in the broader community, too. Here’s what some youth, parents, and educators had to say about their experience.

92% of students

said they had an adult in the school they could go to for help with a problem.

75% of students

indicated they had above average or high academic engagement.

88% of parents/caregivers

said that, if their child had to change schools, it was very important that the new school have the same supports and services as their AIFY school.
